ITS NICE THAT
Group Exhibition
Thurs 25th September – Sat 25th October 2008
IT’S NICE THAT’s first exhibition features an array of artists, designers, illustrators and product designers featured on the blog www.itsnicethat.com. IT’S NICE THAT was launched in April 2007 by designers Will Hudson and Jez Burrows to document and inspire creative talent and has a large national and international audience.
The aim of this showcase is to collate a variety of work from around the world in a number of design related disciplines - from large format prints to small run zines, photographers’ prints to pin badges.
This exhibition brings together the work of established designers and emerging talent where the featured work is exhibited in its original format for the first time.
www.itsnicethat.com investigates the curatorial and archival possibilities of the online space, while also providing a snapshot of the fast-moving world of visual culture. The site utilizes qualities specific to the online world – linking, tagging, archiving, self-publishing, collecting, blogging – presenting a ‘portal’ of straightforward standardized images, each measuring 500 x 333 pixels.
The blog allows for numerous ways to store, organize, search, navigate, point to and manage the information referenced – allowing for a very different viewing experience that values browsing, discovery, happening upon, bookmarking and the building of folksonomy, community, word-of-mouth recommendations and social knowledge.
