Design to Sell
Design To Sell
Student Group Exhibition
Mon 3 December - Fri 7 December 2007
The annual Design To Sell exhibition showcases the talents of Plymouth College of Art’s designers and makers.
Students exhibiting work at Design To Sell have each developed a distinctive, individual style and many go on to exhibit work at other prestigious local, national and international events such as ‘100% Design’ in London, ‘Get Fresh’ at the Devon Guild and ‘Ambiente’ in Frankfurt.
Design To Sell aims to provide an antidote to mass production.
Designer-Makers design and make their own unique work, often working on a small scale to produce hand-made items finished to a high standard. All of the work in this exhibition is designed with the market in mind.
Students at PCA are encouraged to take contemporary approaches to materials and processes, underpinned by a strong understanding of the properties of materials and the related making skills.
Graduates often go on to independent self-employment, to set up studios, co-operatives or artist-led workspaces (like Flameworks here in Plymouth), undertake one-off commissions or work more broadly in the creative industries.
All the work in the exhibition is for sale - please feel free to browse and speak to the students manning the stalls who will be able to give lots more information about the work shown. You may well catch the work of a future prizewinner now at a very reasonable price!
